Apple’s iPhone 17 Rumors Suggest Major New Display Technology

Apple’s iPhone 17 is already looking like one of the most interesting launches of 2025 and possibly the biggest shocker is the display. As reported by leaks from usually-accurate sources, such as infamous leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the base iPhone 17 will indeed get a taller 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display, instead of the 6.1-inch panel on the iPhone 16. That’s because the base model will finally go up to the iPhone 16 Pro’s dimensions, creating more overlap between Apple’s mainstream and premium phones.

Fluid Scroll for All

One of the most-discussed improvements? A 120Hz ProMotion display—something only available on Pro models until now. This translates to buttery-smooth scrolling, improved gaming, and generally more fluid animations, fixing a years-long grievance by users who pined for high refresh rates without forking over cash for the Pro variant.

Disappointingly, there’s a caveat for getting too hyped — Always-On Display and adaptive refresh rates (1Hz–120Hz) likely remain Pro-exclusive features. So even though the base iPhone 17 receives a big upgrade, Apple is saving some major magic for the higher-end models.

Hurdles Continue to Fall

These rumors took further credence when Spigen, one of the leading case makers, inadvertently listed screen protectors for the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro — all with the same 6.3-inch dimensions. The surprise listing was swiftly removed, but not before it was caught by eagle-eyed fans.

Industry loudmouth expert Ross Young and other display insiders have supported these claims, making it more and more likely that Apple’s regular iPhone will indeed receive the Pro treatment this year at least when it comes to screen size.

Though the iPhone 17’s design may be conservative, the new display upgrade could very much lead it to be one of the most exciting iPhones in a long time. Rumored feature 3.

– A 24MP selfie camera (was 12MP)

– A speedier A19 chip

– Potential 8GB or 12GB RAM option

Rumors of an ultra-thin "iPhone 17 Air" with a 6.6-inch display have begun making the rounds —though specifics are unclear at this point.

Apple’s wider screen shift isn’t ambiguous at all – now all iPads get the bigger, smoother screens. With Android competitors already delivering high-refresh-rate screens even on mid-range devices, the iPhone 17 might finally return Apple to parity.

As always, take these leaks with a healthy dose of skepticism. With Apple’s traditional September unveiling just a few months off, we won’t have to wait long to see if they’re true. Keep an eye on
