AMD Just Launched a 96-Core CPU at $11,699


AMD has again claimed a new high-performance computing with the release of its Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9000 WX-Series with a monstrosity 96-core, 192-thread Threadripper Pro 9995WX. Based on the latest Zen 5 architecture, these are the fastest workstation processors ever and are aimed at the professional markets, such as 3D rendering, AI development, or scientific simulations.  

 UnPOWER matched Workstations  

This 9995WX has a 384MB L3 cache, 5.4 GHz boost, and it supports 128 lanes of PCIe 5.0 bandwidth, which is perfect to feed one or more GPUs. AMD says that it can surpass Intel top-end Xeon W9-3595X (60 cores) by 2.2X in Cinebench multi-core rendering and 119 percent in Keyshot rendering . The 350W TDP keeps the chip highly performing at maximum loads, and the DDR5-6400 memory clip guarantees better bandwidth on data-intensive tasks .  

 Zen 5 Architecture Offers a Big Payoff  

The the Zen 5 architecture offers a 16% IPC uplift over that of the previous-gen Threadripper 7000 series as well as 22 multi-threaded performance improvement due to enhanced branch prediction and power efficiency . The 4nm compute dies and 6nm I/O die are efficient in power delivery and AVX-512 support provides faster specialized workload speed .  

 Pro vs. HEDT Models  

The Pro 9000 WX-Series (up to 96 cores) is aimed at enterprise workstations, 8-channel memory, and the AMD Pro Technologies security. In the meantime, non Pro Threadripper 9000 (max 64 cores) targets the top-of-the-line desktop segment (4-channel memory), but at a more affordable price .    

Threadripper 9000 series went on sale in July 2025 and costs $11,699 (the 9995WX is priced well due to the huge advantages over its predecessors that it confers to professionals). Upgrades are simplified by the fact that existing sTR5 motherboards can be upgraded with the new chips once they are BIOS-enabled.  

The new Threadripper gives AMD an even greater advantage in the workstation, CPUs, forcing Intel to react. These chips are a game changer among creators and engineers who require extreme multi-threaded powers.
