Samsung has formally announced that its soon-to-be-released tri-fold smartphone, an innovative expansion of its foldable portfolio, will debut prior to the conclusion of 2025. That was the announcement from Roh Tae-Moon, President of Samsung’s Device Experience Division, during a press conference after their Galaxy Unpacked event in Brooklyn, New York on July 10, 2025. This is the first time Samsung has openly pledged a launch timeframe for its novel tri-fold form factor device, which it’s currently calling the “Galaxy G Fold.I'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request."
As he told Business Korea, “We are working hard with the goal of launching the tri-fold phone when its level of completion and usability are secured. We’ll be able to ship the product this year. You’ll love it. While the official name for the device is not set in stone yet, the company teased a decision soon as the launch draws near.
The tri-fold phone, which folds three times instead of the typical two, will reportedly have a ‘G-shaped’ inward-folding design, setting it apart from rivals such as Huawei’s outward-folding Mate XT. This, of course, takes display durability to the forefront, which is certainly a worry exhibited by competing products. Leaks indicate the phone may sport a 9.9- to 10.5-inch OLED screen when unfolded, providing a tablet-like experience for multitasking, gaming, and media. Could run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, premium price — possibly over $2,900.
Samsung is aiming at a limited initial release, hit-and-hope markets like South Korea, China, with 200-300,000 units expected to be made as they’re hard to make. Global launch will probably occur in 2026 with a second gen model, depending on initial response. The device’s model number, SM-F968, has emerged in the GSMA database alongside previous listings, verifying it’s been in development under the internal codename “Q7M.”
This launch indicates Samsung’s desire to regain its foldable market dominance, where it’s been challenged by upstarts such as Huawei — the brand that introduced the world’s first tri-fold phone, the Mate XT, in September 2024. Samsung’s tri-fold phone is about to change mobile computing by combining smartphone portability with big-screen space and might just establish new standards for foldables.
Keep your ears open for updates as Samsung gets ready to launch this game-changer – anticipated between October and December 2025!
