Leaks and internal records are buzzing with Apple watchers as it could mean a massive launch of Macs that will run on the next-generation M5 chip. Although nothing is corroborated by Apple as of yet, the emerging trend is a staggered release schedule in the end of 2025 and in 2026.
What the leaks reveal
The greatest hint is that a bare MacBook Pro featuring the M5 will potentially be released as early as October 2025. That timing is supported by supply limitations on existing M4 MacBook Pros as well as a recently-filed FCC filing involving an unannounced MacBook model. More expensive models (with M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets) are, however, purportedly to be released in 2026.
In addition to the MacBook Pro, the Apple pipeline is giving clues of MacBook Air, Mac mini, and perhaps new upgrades of iMac in early and mid-2026. To illustrate, the MacBook air will likely implement the M5 chips between March-April 2026. Mac mini featuring M5 and M5 Pro have also been indicated to be launched in end 2025 but this is regarded as speculative.
Possible Release Strategy
Among the developing theories is that Apple can abandon its customary concomitant release pattern and alternatively launch basic models and reserve the Pro/Max versions in the future. Such a strategy would provide Apple with greater control in supply chain and marketing pace.
What to watch
The most probable timeframe of the first M5 MacBook Pro is October 2025.
The rest of the lineup will follow in early 2026 including the M5 Air, Mac mini, iMac, and the Pro/Max levels.
It is not clear whether Apple will employ the use of formal launch event or launch through press releases.
These are leaks and rumors as usual. However, history is a guide and Apple is usually very able to control product announcements, so any definite release date will probably be on Apple terms.
