The smartphone market is already getting pretty spicy in May 2025 thanks to a run of intriguing launches, led by the much-anticipated OnePlus 13s. Scheduled to launch in India in the coming weeks, the OnePlus 13s is an ultra-compact flagship that makes no compromises on performance, bringing the highest level of processing power to a comfortable, smaller form. Anticipated to be a global rebranded version of the OnePlus 13T exclusive to China, it comes with a 6.32-inch AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite. With up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM, 1TB UFS 4.0 storage and a 6,260mAh battery with 80W fast charging, OnePlus 13s is all set to slug it out in the premium mid-range category, expected to be around ₹45,000-50,000 price point. Its dual-camera setup, with a 50MP main sensor with OIS plus a 50MP telephoto lens. It’s got a new “Plus Key” replacing the company’s signature Alert Slider for customizable shortcuts. Teasers on OnePlus India’s social media, as well as dedicated landing pages on Amazon and the brand’s Indian website, all but confirm its impending arrival—in black and pink colorways, with no plans for a global release in Europe or North America.
Over in Korea it’s all eyes on Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, which will be officially launched on May 13th. This Snapdragon 8 Elite powered flagship with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage aims to be a direct competitor to the OnePlus 13s and the incoming iPhone 17 Air. Its elegant design and AI-powered features are designed to help Samsung maintain its 20% worldwide market share, recently taken from Apple. Google’s Pixel 9a will likely round out this midrange-heavy May launch cycle, following a feat of dominance from the Pixel 9 series — powered by Google’s Tensor G4 chip and AI-powered tools such as Magic Editor. The Pixel 9a is expected to aim for the mid-range with strong software support, echoing Google’s new support lifecycle with quarterly security patches rolling out to 19 separate Pixel devices.
These were followed by many other impressive launches, such as the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, launched on April 30 and acclaimed for its quad-curved, all-curved display and outstanding 6,000mAh battery, as well as the OPPO Reno 14 series, expected to debut on May 15. Similarly, the iQOO Neo 10 and Realme GT7 are both rumored to be coming to market, providing another pair of high-performance choices for mobile gamers. Social media posts on X by consumers show deep enthusiasm for the upcoming xOnePlus 13s, with users lauding its pocketable size and flagship-level dimensions, while others wish it had super aggressive pricing to beat rivals to the punch. With brands such as OnePlus, Samsung and Google fighting for that top position, May of 2025 will see a plethora of smart devices, competing to serve every slice of the market, from budget to flagship.
