After a near month delay from its originally scheduled April launch, Samsung is Readying the announcement on May 13, 2025 for its slimmest flagship to date, the Galaxy S25 Edge . The launch, as now widely reported and confirmed by Samsung in an official invitation, will be at 9 AM KST (8 PM ET on May 12) during a virtual Unpacked that’ll be streamed on YouTube and on Samsung’s newsroom. Though a welcome change, this Galaxy S25 series launch, a step down from the majestic in-person Unpacked event we usually expect every January, seems representative of a more cautious rollout strategy, perhaps due to as-yet-unexplained internal corporate upheavals following the January passing of Samsung’s powerful head of its DX division, Jong-Hee Han. With the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung aims to cater to the style-forward consumer, delivering ultra-premium design elements while ensuring uncompromised flagship performance for users who demand both form and function.
The Galaxy S25 Edge could be as thin as 5.85mm and weigh in at 163g – Samsung’s thinnest smartphone in several years. With a titanium frame, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 in the front and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 in the back, it brings rugged durability to its lightweight design. The phone features a large, colorful, 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 1440x3120 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint reader. Unlike the TW, it is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and with 12GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage the Android 15 with One UI 7 flows super smoothly. Its 3,900mAh battery has some wondering about endurance, though a completely rethought vapor chamber should help with thermal management. As evidenced by this recent post on X, sentiment towards Hydron is quite divided, with some users welcoming the slim profile and others questioning the small battery size and even the need for a device like this at all.
One notable spec is the 200MP main camera with the new ISOCELL HP2 sensor, same as the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s main shooter, combined with 12MP ultra-wide, in a dual-camera arrangement. Samsung’s ALoP (All Lenses on Prism) tech, which was first unveiled at CES 2025, allows for a thinner camera module by increasing brightness and cutting noise. Galaxy AI tools such as Audio Eraser and Auto Trim will take the photography experience to the next level. Pricing is expected to be €1,249 ($1,355) for the 256GB model and €1,369 ($1,485) for 512GB in Germany, putting it right between the Galaxy S25 Plus and Ultra. ₹113,000 to ₹131,900. The new colorways include Titanium Jet Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Icy Blue.
The Galaxy S25 Edge will be initially available in retail stores first in China and South Korea on May 23, with pre-orders opening May 14th. With the U.S. and other global markets to come on May 30, though first production is capped at 40,000 units, indicating Samsung is likely gauging market demand. This launch is happening as Samsung is about to get serious competition for that segment from Apple’s expected iPhone 17 Air and OnePlus 13s – both gunning for the UHDT premium slim-flagship niche. While it only ships with the promise of seven years of future software updates and lacks wireless charging, the S25 Edge balances a few compromises for its super-sleek design. Combined with its cutting-edge engineering and AI-assisted tricks, these may help it create a different path to success in the hyper-competitive 2025 smartphone market.
