AMD released the official announcement that the upcoming release date of Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors will be delayed and set at some point in the future, on July 31, 2024. Final quality assurance checks were the reason taken by the company to delay new retail dates of the lineup in August.
In a official announce of Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing and Graphics of AMD, the delay was prompted late in the testing. In our last inspections, we discovered that the first production batch that was exported to our resellers was not of our total quality standards. To celebrate the best possible experiences of every Ryzen user, we are collaborating with our channel partners to have initial production units swapped with new units to have extra caution against the worst-case scenario of having any early units in the market," Huynh said.
The Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X were delayed to make way to the more powerful models and will be available in stores on August 8, whereas the Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X will come on August 15. AMD explained that this problem was not about any silicon or basic design of the processor but started at the packaging and quality testing procedures.
As observers in the industry observe, the delay, albeit short lived, is important since the rivalry between AMD and Intel is fierce with the latter facing its quality issues as well. At present, AMD confirmed that it will do everything possible to make sure that each Ryzen 9000 device can pass its performance and reliability tests before appearing on shelves
