Being one of the regular users of the laptop, I have learned that it is essential to take care of the battery life as I will need my device to perform well during my trip. Although they are versatile, windows laptops can use power rapidly when not optimized. The following are the highly useful tips I have worked out to enhance my battery life without compromising on its performance.
Switch on first your power settings. Another feature of windows is the power saver that dims the screen and restricts the number of operations running. I get to this within Settings > System > Power & Battery and choose the power mode with the emphasis on battery life. Reduction of screen brightness manually or using adaptive brightness saves much power as well since the display is power hungry.
Then, take care of applications running in the background. I constantly use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to find and close the programs that are eating my battery. Blocking startup applications through settings > apps > startup helps to eliminate their unwanted initial startup, thus it saves the resources.
The other suggestion is to avoid connectivity as much as possible. I also switch off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, especially when it is idle because these features continuously try to connect to a signal which increases the use of power. When you do not have an internet connection, airplane mode is a shortcut to turn them off.
I also maximize my browsing. Heavy weighted powers such as streaming or advertisement tabs can put pressure on the battery. I can also minimize power usage by browsing with an efficient browser such as Microsoft Edge and putting it on efficient mode to reduce power usage.
Lastly, maintain your laptop chilled. Excessive heat causes the fan to exert more effort causing a drain in battery. I make sure there is good ventilation by placing my laptop on a hard surface and cleaning the vents after a few days.
After adjusting these settings and habits, I have increased the battery life of my Windows laptop to last more, and this has increased my productivity. Give these recomendations a go and you will notice the difference!
