Privacy focused Brave, a web browser by default blocks Microsoft websites Recall feature when browsing all its tabs and windows. The step renders Brave the first mainstream browser that actively prevents the tracking of user browsing history by enabling Recall to record the actions of the user, yet still giving the user the option to set this setting manually without the browser doing the work.
What is Microsoft Recall?
Recall is a feature that is newly reimplemented in Windows 11 and takes screenshots in the regular intervals when the user is using the desktop. It will then apply artificial intelligence to index these images in a manner that will result in a searchable set of historical digital traffic. Even though Microsoft opt-in-bedded Recall and reinforced the security later on, privacy concerns still exist. The snapshots of the Recall can leak sensitive information that consists of passwords, emails and financial data which may not be safely secured and as such results in accidental exposure.
The Stand that Brave took on Privacy
One of the key purposes mentioned by the development team of Brave is the threat of pressure of compromising sensitive data in the process of blocking it by default. The browser has now instructed the Windows to consider all the Brave tabs to be in a private mode such that the Recall is not allowed to capture any browser activity more than what Microsoft does on its own to give guarantee that any private browsing sessions cannot be captured.
After this update, Recall will not allow any Brave user in Windows 11 to save browsing history. Anyone who wants to allow Recall to snapshot Brave, can override this setting in the privacy settings of the browser.
