Intel Panther Lake processors are ahead of schedule in spite of layoff

Intel affirms its Panther Lake and 18A chip plans as the company plans to lay off thousands of employees and restructure manufacturing

Despite major layoffs Intel is on track with its Panther Lake CPUs and large-scale manufacturing restructuring.

With a series of layoffs and considerable shifts in its production wing, Intel has assuaged that work on its new and next-generation of CPUs, named the Panther Lake will continue undeterred. Company executives have gone on record to assure both customers and investors in an official statement that both Panther Lake and the manufacturing infrastructure upon which it will be based is on schedule according to plan and that this will feature new Intel 18A process node, the most advanced to date even at its launch point.

The dedication of Intel is at a period of large internal change. Thousands of jobs were announced to be cut earlier in the year as part of the massive cutback program and the company also announced its intentions to restructure its manufacturing division as a separate foundry enterprise. The actions were a source of concern that core technology roadmaps were getting delayed especially when it came to the more ambitious Panther Lake family, a roadmap that is considered by Intel to be an essential part of its attempt to regain performance leadership against other competitors such as AMD and Apple.

Intel claims to be at the post advanced stage of final validation of process 18A, which offers improved power efficiency and faster transistors despite the turbulence. It will be shown in Panther Lake CPUs, which will fully exploit these improvements, with a goal on consumer PCs and elite data center applications. The analysts of the industry observe that Intel now has to demonstrate that it can fulfill its promises on time, the Panther Lake launch being expected in 2026.

Though layoffs have shaken the morale of the employees, Intel still believes that its technical teams should continue their execution. It is not about a change to the roadmap, said a spokesperson. A success in Panther lake would turn out to be a bold move to initiate an effective long term turn around strategy at a time when the waters of competition are turning turbulent
