M5 Chip Gives Apple Major GPU Improvements and New Devices.

The long-awaited M5 chip by Apple is already making ripples in the technology circles with leaks and benchmarking figures starting to develop a more precise picture of what is in store.

A Russian YouTuber (Wylsacom) posted an unboxing video of what may be an iPad Pro with the M5 last week, which provides one of the first views of the next-generation silicon at Apple.  The device in question has a close similarity to the existing M4 iPad Pro in the external, however, the differences can be seen in the internal. Based on the benchmark leakage, the M5 scores around 4,133 in single-core Geekbench tests- around 10-13 percent higher than its predecessor.  The improvement in multi-core performance is said to be about 15 %.

Possibly more notable is the possible increase in GPUs which in early testing has shown to increase graphics performance by up to 35-38 percent over that of M4.  These improvements can be related to the Neural Engine architecture of Apple that might be increasingly involved in rendering and graphics tasks that need AI acceleration.

In the meantime, it seems that Apple is gearing up M5-based Macs. It is reported that the company is on the verge of mass production of MacBook Pro models with M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips, which should appear in the markets between late 2025 and the first part of 2026.  The design of the MacBook Pro can be updated only with slight modifications, such as ports and camera, possibly the Thunderbolt 5 support, yet the major change is supposed to be in the performance department.

Another perspective of interest: Apple appears to be harmonizing the design of the M5 with the newest A19 Pro chip (that will be used in iPhone 17 series), implying that it might be sharing design innovations across the mobile and computing divisions.

The only thing left to be observed is when Apple will put up an official announcement. Leaks and FCC filing have already indicated an event, most likely in October of 2025, during which the M5 iPad Pro (and possibly an iPad Vision refresh) will likely be announced.

With the M5 chips starting to become reality, everyone is wondering how Apple will turn the raw benchmark performance into a real-world performance, especially in creative workflow, gaming, and AI-enhanced workloads where GPUs are being pushed like never before.
