It is also claimed that Apple is about to make a notable camera update to its forthcoming M5 iPad Pro that answers one of the complaints that became apparent with the last model. The Mark Gurman of Bloomberg notes that the new iPad Pro will have a split-screen design on front cameras, with one aimed at the landscape, and the other at the portrait screen.
In 2024, Apple also released a re-design version of the iPad Pro, the M4, provoking some critics because of a drastic change in the geometric position of the front facing camera on the decidedly traditional portrait of the iPad. Although this change improved the user experience of anyone who mainly uses their iPad in landscape, especially with the Magic Keyboard docked-it introduced problems to those users who like to use their iPad in the portrait position
The landscape-oriented camera placement would work better with video calls and Face ID authentication when the iPad is used in landscape and leave the portrait users glancing to the side during FaceTime calls and selfies. It is this design decision that has triggered criticism among its users who felt that their taste orientation was being sidelined.
The approach of Apple seems to be almost comprehensive: a single camera will be left on the landscape edge to operate the device horizontally, and an additional one will be presented on the portrait edge to use the device vertically. Such a dual-camera system is supposed to deliver the best experience irrespective of the way one holds his or her device.
The new layout will undoubtedly enhance the Face ID capability with the same usability on both sides and therefore, unlocking of the devices will become more natural to the users who switch regularly between the use of the laptop form, and the use of the tablet-like form
An M5 iPad Pro is to be released during the late 2025, and will become the first iPad Apple will use the M5 chip on. Other than the improved processing power and dual-camera system, there are no other significant design changes that must be expected in the iteration.
